Open Source Science

Science Commons is a great idea [HT: Will Wilkinson]. It is common in particle physics for different groups to analyse the same data set independently and there is no reason why this can’t happen in all fields. Open source science would even allow amateur scientists who don’t have the resources to perform experiments to undertake research with real data. This can only accelerate the pace of discoveries and advance our search for scientific truths. Unfortunately, I expect resistance from scientists and universities who may prefer to hoard their data to maximise their own publication counts.
